AI 0-1-1,000,000 Seminar Series - Prof. Wei Li
Prof. Wei Li - Adjunct Professor at Stanford University
The AI 0–1-1,000,000 Seminar Series offers a comprehensive overview of the full Generative AI stack—from high-level applications to low-level performance optimizations. Success in AI today requires seamless integration across four core layers:
Each one-hour seminar will dive into one of these layers, bridging principles and real-world practices at scale:
• Seminar 1: AI in Healthcare Applications
Explore real-world use cases such as AI-powered doctors, clinical workflows from Microsoft, and cutting-edge medical research in cardiology, oncology, and neurology from institutions like Stanford.
• Seminar 2: Foundation Models
Understand the core architectures like transformers and Mixture of Experts (MoE), and examine leading large language models (LLMs) from OpenAI, Meta, Google, DeepSeek, and others. This session will also cover benchmarking approaches for performance, safety, and reliability.
• Seminar 3: Development Frameworks
Learn practical tools and techniques including prompt engineering, fine-tuning, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), and building intelligent agents.
• Seminar 4: Advanced Optimizations
Delve into the technical foundations that enable scalable AI—compilers, optimized libraries, parallel computing strategies, and model compression techniques.
Short Bio
With extensive experience in both technology and business, Dr. Wei Li is an AI software executive, turning cutting-edge innovation into business at scale (0-1-1000000). Based in the Silicon Valley for several decades, he is an Adjunct Professor at Stanford University, and has served as the Vice President and General Manager of AI Software Engineering at Intel and as a board member for two leading AI organizations: the PyTorch Foundation and the Linux Foundation AI & Data. Wei holds a Ph.D. in Computer Science from Cornell University, and has completed executive education at Stanford Graduate School of Business.
In the last decade, Wei led teams that developed full stack AI software, models, solutions, and co-designing AI hardware acceleration. Notable accomplishments include improving AI performance by 10-100X through software acceleration of frameworks and libraries, securing the #1 ranking for 7B LLMs on Hugging Face, creating domain specific AI solutions for healthcare and HR, co-designing AI-accelerated CPU/GPUs, and collaborating with Argonne National Laboratory to train a 1 trillion-parameter model on a 60,000-GPU supercomputer. His work contributed to generating multi-billion-dollar AI revenue for Intel, earning his teams five Intel Achievement Awards.
